UAE Corporate Tax is no longer new. For businesses, the challenge has shifted from preparing for its arrival to managing it as part of everyday operations.
And that is where the Tax Dragon comes in.
Corporate Tax does not begin and end with the tax return. It can appear in business structures, financial information, Related Party arrangements, Free Zone positions and decisions made throughout the year.
Know Where Your Dragon Lives
Every business has a different tax footprint. A mainland company, a Free Zone business and a group operating through several entities may face very different considerations.
For Free Zone businesses in particular, 0% Corporate Tax should never be assumed simply because the company holds a Free Zone licence.
The business model matters.
Watch the Dragon’s Cousins
Transactions with Related Parties and Connected Persons can bring Transfer Pricing into the picture.
The principle sounds straightforward: transactions should reflect arm’s length terms.
The real challenge is knowing where the risks are, what needs attention and whether the position can be supported.
Keep the Paper Dragon Under Control
Corporate Tax has brought financial reporting, documentation and business reality closer together.
What the business does, what its agreements say, what its accounts record and what ultimately appears in its Corporate Tax Return should make sense together.
When they don't, the Dragon starts breathing fire.
Don’t Wait Until Filing Time
One of the biggest mistakes is treating Corporate Tax as an annual return exercise.
Businesses change throughout the year. New transactions, customers, activities, entities and commercial arrangements can change the tax position with them.
Tax compliance therefore needs to evolve with the business.
Is Your Tax Dragon Really Tamed?
Submitting a Corporate Tax Return is one thing.
Being able to understand, support and defend the position behind it is another.
The Tax Dragon does not need to be feared. But it does need to be understood.
A well-trained Tax Dragon should not need to be fought every year.
